Continuing Education Requirements for 2026 Reporting

These updated categories will take effect for the 2026 reporting period and are designed to better reflect the evolving needs of our profession and membership.

As part of these updates, the annual CEU requirement will be reduced from 16 to 12 hours, making it easier to stay current while still supporting your ongoing professional growth. A new CEU reporting form will be added to this page in January 2026. If reporting CEUs for 2025 please click here.

CEU Categories

In all categories, remote learning, webinar, or teleconference formats are acceptable, as is in-person attendance when feasible.

Categories are divided into Group A and Group B. RMFTs must obtain a minimum of half their CEUs (or 6 hours) from Group A. There is no minimum requirement for Group B.

Group A (Minimum of 6 Hours):

1) CACFT Courses, webinars, conferences, and trainings: You do not need a certificate for these. Just record the date and title on your form.

2) Other Courses, Webinars: provided by other professional associations, organizations, or schools, so long as the course has some focus or purpose which overlaps with that of CACFT/ACTCF (see list above) and the title appears relevant

3) Individual RequestsIf a member attends a course where the title does not communicate an obvious connection to the above categories, the member may provide a course description to be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. If the course demonstrates sufficient overlap, it may be approved for the number of hours which are deemed relevant.

Group B (No Minimum Hours):

4) Receiving Systemic Supervision and ConsultationOne credit per hour of receiving individual or group supervision and/or consultation with a systemic focus which is appropriately documented and signed by the supervisor or consultant with relevant credentials. The supervision/consultation may be paid or unpaid, but must be within a formal relationship.

Members are encouraged to use professional judgement when deciding who has relevant credentials to provide supervision in systemic therapy, while bearing in mind that RMFT represents the gold standard of relational therapy in Canada. While a CACFT supervisor would certainly qualify, there may also be professionals accredited by other relational therapy bodies which would also qualify. A list of approved supervisors is available on the CACFT website.

5) Presentations, Teaching, and Trainings provided by the memberOne credit per hour of face-to-face teaching (live or video). Please include: The title and course outline/description, the school or organization where the course/training was given, and the dates. Credit will be given only for the first time a course is taught (or first time used for CACFT CEUs). Repeated presentations of courses will be accorded preparation time of 1 hour of credit per day-long workshops, no more than once every 6 months.

6) Course Preparation and Publication Writing: Can include one credit per hour of first-time preparation for a course or training provided by the member, updates to an existing course or training, or writing an academic article, book, or chapter. Please write a summary to submit for your CEU claim.

7) Providing Supervision: Members with the RMFT-S designation can claim one credit per five hours of systemic supervision provided. The supervision/consultation may be paid or unpaid, but must occur within a formal relationship.

8) Supervisor Refresher Course:  Supervisors who have completed their refresher course can count five hours of CEUs.

9) Volunteering on a CACFT CommitteeOne credit per hour of volunteering on a CACFT committee.
