We often hear that we are in an unprecedented territory with mental health, and that previous cultures were not bothered by our current weak psyches and inabilities to cope. Beginning with ancient texts and doing a fly over of historical views of mental health, this presentation will challenge the idea that we are in new territory in treating psychological maladies. After examining the trajectory of how we got here, suggestions will be offered of overarching systemic themes for therapists to consider.
