Register as an eligible mental health provider for Canadian Military veterans and their families

In 2010 Veterans affairs and the Department of National Defense recognized Registered Marriage and Family Therapists as eligible service providers for veterans, active military personnel and their families through Médavie Blue Cross where they are provincially regulated, currently Quebec and Ontario. This recognition was the result of lobbying and education by the CAMFT (then known as the Canadian Registry) about the value of RMFTs as systemic therapists to address issues affecting veterans and military families.

RMFTs in Quebec and Ontario who wish to register with Medavie Blue Cross must meet the following criteria:

  • Proof of Masters and MFT designation
  • Proof of membership with provincial regulatory body
  • Five years of post-Masters clinical experience including three years supervised
  • Criminal record check
  • Proof of liability insurance

As the claims administrator, Medavie Blue Cross is responsible for establishing and maintaining Veterans Affairs Canada’s and the Department of National Defense’s list of registered service providers. Individuals wishing to register should call Medavie Blue Cross at 1-888-261-4033 or fill out their Provider Application form on-line.
