Course Description

In this seven-hour workshop, therapists will be introduced to Imago Relationship Therapy and to its processes.  Clinicians working with distressed couples need a comprehensive theory to explain the relational paradigm and how the history of each individual in the couple, influences the present relationship between them. 

We will also explain why partners fight with each other and how their frustrations are a signal of their childhood unmet needs and result in distancing and disconnection in the couple.

This workshop, while only an introduction to the power of Imago Relationship Therapy, will enable you to experience for yourself the impactful intervention of the Imago Dialogue in couple therapy and provide you with a taste of the potency of the “space between” in couple dyads. 

We will focus on creating safety, deepening empathy and connection, providing feedback, and using « Appreciation Dialogue » and the «  Imago Dialogue. »

You will practice and experience using Imago skills though live demonstrations and by working in dyads to begin to see the effectiveness of these interventions and understand why they are so powerful and impactful.

Objectives

Participants will be able to:

• Learn the theoretical  basis of Imago Relationship Therapy
  
• Describe the concept of the Imago and its role in couple dynamics
  
• Describe the stages of a couple relationship
  
• Facilitate the Mirroring exercise, the Imago Dialogue and the Imago Appreciation Dialogue all of which will help to develop safety in the couple, deepen empathy and connection. 
  

Pierrette Richard: Psychologist and  Clinical Instructor with the Imago International Training Institute (IITI)

Pierrette Richard is a bilingual psychologist living in New Brunswick. She is a warm and charismatic clinician who is also a presenter, supervisor, and trainer. She is the co-owner of the Clinic of Applied Psychology in Moncton, New Brunswick where she trains psychotherapists, coaches professionals, and is an expert in Imago Relationship Therapy. 

She obtained the title of Advanced Imago Clinician in 2018, after first becoming a Certified Imago Therapist. That same year Pierrette was invited to join the faculty of "The International Imago Training Institute.”  To read more about Pierrette please click here.

The course is also open to any RMFT Supervisor Qualifying that feels this refresher course would be helpful. 

Non-CAMFT therapists who have experience in supervising the clinical work of others.
